Photo essay of Afghanistan in the 1950's and 60's

For everyone who says that Afghanistan is a "medieval" country, this photo essay of Afghanistan in the 1950's and 60's may be an eye-opener, for those who have eyes to open, that is.

  1. Great post. Now lets think back real quick. When was it that the west got involved in the region? When was it that the West had their coup in Iran and put in the Shah. These are not coincidences. These are consequences. But do not forget. -----Be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.----

  2. RZ - looking at those pictures was very unsettling. They could have been anywhere in the 50's and 60's. Kabul is now full of "narco palaces" of pink marble and granite. Small houses built by hand by local traders are simply bulldozed to make room for more. If you live in a desirable neighbourhood but aren't "desirable" yourself, you're out of luck.

Ultrapure heroin at rock bottom prices is flooding into places around the world. The latest I read about was southern California where a shot of the stuff could kill you immediately.

Another Canadian soldier was killed on Sunday by an IED. Probably many were wounded - he was leading a patrol - but we aren't told about that anymore. Control freak Stephen Harper is busy perfecting his Ministry of Information. The latest is that Parliament will recess two weeks early and then he'll probably pull the plug on it (again!) while in recess, so that a fall election is a possibility. That would stop the investigation into torture of Afghan prisoners handed over by Canadian soldiers plus a lot of other stuff that doesn't look too good for the government.

Crazy, eh? We're all mushrooms here - kept in the dark and fed on organic fertilizer (I'm being polite).

  3. Excellent Mushroom analogy. ROFLMAO.
I heard about the super H floating around now. This junk is instant death, that is how potent it is. This not not a bad recipe, it is intentional. TPTB are turning the whole region into their own sand box to play in. Occupations have never worked, and they never will.

  4. Filo, the narco-palaces are known as narchitecture, I believe, by the Western narcotics cops in Afghanistan. The 'mediaeval' slur was used by Liam Fox the new Defence Minister in the UK a couple of weeks ago. He was well and truly caned in the informed media for it.
